Runes:


Nordic runes are often used for "ancient" or "magic" writing since their symbols have a nice "old-world" look to
them. They have the added bonus of possessing a nearly 1-to-1 mapping with the Roman Alphabet, so if they want
to be fancy they can actually be written so that a geek/fan can translate them.

Not every translation is useful. Lord of the Rings often has readable text that translates into Elvish, so
you have to first translate the runes into roman characters, and then translate the words from Elvish to English
to be able to tell what it says.
